27 February 2005 will see the first ever race in akademia between a Polish eight and Cambridge University eight. Poland will be represented by a crew from the Academy in Bydgoszcz.

Last September during the XIII Great Rowing Regatta in Bydgoszcz, the crew of the Bydgoszcz Academy hosted an eight of undergraduates from Cambridge University on the river Brdza.

T he Bydgoszcz crew was victorious. Six of their rowers were members of the Polish Olympic squad from Athens and the remaining three crew were members of the under-23 world title winners.

The return race will be rowed on 27 February 2005, during the preparation period for the Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race. The Cambridge University crew usually race two strong rivals in preparation for The Boat Race. This year as well as the crew of the Bydgoszcz Academy they will take on the might of the German national crew. The eights for The Boat Race will be announced on monday 28 February, the day after the race with Bydgoszcz Academy.

The Boat Race will be held on 26 March 2005.

Trophies for this return race will be presented by Robert Sycz on the Polish side, and James Cracknell on the British side, who is also a double gold medallist from Sydney and Athens.

The event will be screened, amongst others, by ITV, TVP1 and TV Polonia.
